a time for thanksgiving

How appropriate that I am writing this during my favorite time of the year...fall, thanksgiving etc...I should be thankful everyday, but yesterday was definitely a doozy! I took my 3 year old to KDO like I do every Tuesday, then went shopping with my baby. I needed to get some stuff for his birthday party this weekend, so I went to a different HomeGoods...farther away than my usual route. Why be thankful? God's protection. I was pretty much out in the middle of nowhere...30 minutes or so away from my parents or husband. Closer to my home,  a light came on on my dashboard. I looked it up and it was for tire pressure. 

I decided to go a little early to pick up Adrian so I could go to the Discount Tire place after and have them check on my tire. I called my mom to tell her to see just in case it would take too long, maybe she could come get the boys from me and then I'd pick them up at her house...No problem. (I was on the highway access road, mind you.) Andrew was asleep in the back and I heard a thud and felt that bump...my tire just blew. I have 10 minutes to pick up my 3 year old. My baby is asleep in the backseat and I can't go anywhere. I call my mom again, get the number for the school, call them to tell them I had a blowout and my mom will pick up Adrian. While she went to get him, I call Discount Tire, got their tow truck number, and called the guy. While I'm on the phone with the tow co., a policeman drives up and escorts me down the road to  a safer location (more shoulder room). The tow truck comes rather quickly, and CHANGES my tire to my spare because I have a baby in a car seat asleep in the back...He then followed me to the tire shop, gives them my tire, gives me my receipt and drives away. My mom comes, Andrew wakes up and she takes both boys to her house while I wait in line. I call the tow truck company and the guy says, you're really lucky. We don't normally change tires, but take into consideration babies and elderly:) I said, well I think you have angels working for you! I gave him my credit card number and went inside the tire shop. They just happened to have one tire like mine at another shop so it didn't have to be special ordered...and it was fixed this morning...amazing. I know God is watching over me and my little ones. I'm thankful Andrew slept through the whole ordeal, my mom was home so she could pick up Adrian from his school and he wouldn't be scared and have to wait for mommy. I'm thankful we didn't have a wreck, the tire just blew but didn't send my car swirling out of control. The cop showed up to help me to a safer area and the tow truck guy showed up quickly and changed my tire. what a day!

Muffin Tin Monday...PUMPKINS!!!!!

 I love pumpkins. I love the look. I love the taste. I love the season they bring...I love FALL! oh if it could be one season all year long, I would wish for FALL!!! I guess I also love the colors--deep orange, yellow, brown, brick rusty red and gold...my favorites! so I was SO happy to see this week's MTM theme...PUMPKINS! 

my little pumpkin has some oh so cute scarecrow skewers with pepperoni pumpkins, a great big pumpkin pb&j sandwich, a pumpkin patch of colby jack cheese, a little bitty pumpkin sandwich (and his twin on the other side) a couple pumpkin candies, and some oblong pumpkin (red grape) skewers on new fall leaf picks in a fun pumpkin and leaf shaped muffin tin with pumpkin salt shakers just in case and a little pumpkin decor off to the side!

oh my goodness, he is such a snuggle bunny! I remember this week...waiting for you to be born on Friday!

I am planning my baby's first birthday this week. Actually I've been planning it for a while, but am getting down to the...what I have to do each day this week to get it all done. I found some oh so cute fall picks and fall goodie bags for his party. I'm making some pumpkin and fall leaf shaped cookies for decor and to give away. We're having bento style (finger foods) for lunch and I'm making a dump truck cake filled with candy corn and fall colored m&ms and some of the cookies will be adorning the cake.

I hope it all turns out the way it looks in my head! I do this to myself so often. I have the perfect picture of it all...in my head! and then reality sets in...so I'm hopeful:) I'll post pictures next weekend...6 more days and my baby is not a baby anymore. 

park day fridays

Today our church preschool group went to the zoo! I packed goodbyns for the boys and me and was amazed how many comments (good that is) I got about my 3 year old's 'lunch tray'!! Some of my church friends commented on the pictures I post on facebook and I said..it's my creative outlet. I can't sew, but I can cook and I can create a unique lunch for my little boys to enjoy and help them explore better eating habits. For my bentos, it keeps me from eating sandwiches...I can do without the bread!

I failed to take pictures of them bc we were running a little late and my 3 year old gets rather impatient when he knows we're going somewhere. The nice thing about a goodbyn on a zoo outing is that it is so big, it's sits rather nicely in his lap. He could pick and choose from his dino pb&js, pepperoni and mozzarella kabobs, red grapes with his elephant fork, mini box of m&ms and parmesan garlic potato chips. 

Mommy enjoyed turkey, pesto jack and salami roll ups, red grapes, carrot sticks with ranch and a couple potato chips too! Everything stayed really cold with my little ice pillows in the goodbyn and surrounded by the bigger ice blocks inside my insulated picnic bag from World Market. I LOVE that bag!

New Picks!!!

I can't wait to try these out... AGS is a cake supply shop. These are actually cupcake toppers so the stick is a little wider than my other picks, but still so cute. I bought scarecrows, a set of trains, planes, trucks and boats, and a set of sea creatures...starfish, octopus, turtles and clamshell. I have a set of sea life cookie cutters that will work so well with the sea life picks for themed bentos. And the trains, planes, trucks and boats? well, I'm a mommy of boys!

My baby turns one next week and I am having a bento lunch party for him. I'm making a dump truck cupcake cake with my wilton set, but with a fall theme--the cake will hold candy corn and pumpkins with fall fudge leaves on the ground around it. I'll make leaf and pumpkin shaped sandwiches, kabobs with the scarecrow picks, and more. Here is a picture of the same set used to make a train cake! click here
